An irksome threesome!

Arun and Suraj (all names changed) are both techies in the Development Center of our company. I know Suraj as he is my eldest brother’s junior. Through him I got to know Arun too. Arun also happens to be Suraj’s batch mate. Suraj recently got engaged and will marry in May.

Arun met Beena, a girl in Suraj’s project a few months back. It was love at first sight for him. Now… Suraj treats Beena like his little sister. When Arun asked Suraj to act as match maker between the two, Suraj baulked as he felt that Beena was not the kind of girl for Arun, a guy known for his escapades in the Institute. Suraj told him so point blank too. Arun’s efforts to convince Suraj that he was no more the reckless guy he was in college fell on Suraj’s deaf ears.

Arun came to me for help, because if Beena was like an younger sister to Suraj, I was like his grandchild. Which means he acts like a concerned grandpa with me. Suraj though a little exasperated at my involvement, explained with great patience that Beena though a modern gal, was not the type of gal he was comfortable associating with Arun, who was well known for his numerous girl friends and exploits in college. Arun is one of those smart and brainy guys. I guess the word here is “chick magnet” :p

Arun is terribly hurt that Suraj, his best friend never understood him, especially since he knows Arun well and would never associate with him if he was the kind of guy who played around with gals feelings. Arun’s gal pals were willing volunteers in his activities and besides that was over four years ago. Arun was the single straight guy like every other guy since he left the Institute.

My eldest bro thinks that Suraj is being a unfair. My second bro thinks Suraj is right!

I am just feeling so bad for Arun and the nasty trick History seems to be playing on him.

( Something that will make ad people smile. And since I have been there done that, I found it absolutely hilarious and very very creative!! Creative dept rulez, down with Client Servicing!! :p )

I believe that the whole topic is something that Beena and Arun should think about.

And if Arun thinks he would like to spend time with Beena then he should directly ask her. What is the point in Suraj deciding on behalf of Beena that Arun wouldn't be a good match?

I won't blame Suraj too.He is being the big protective brother. But Beena definitely would have an opinion of her own.If she is not keen on being with Arun, then the issue is solved.

Just my opinion.I just know this small part of the story you have potrayed here.Am commenting purely based on that...

I think Arun should help himself a little bit tooo ... What is it with some guys? they need so many mediators and stake holders to get to know a person ... :D

Yes, what goes around, does kick you in the b*** sometimes. I guess it would have played differently had the girl been just another colleague.

Karthik: "oruthavan nannavan pokunnathu ishtapettilla alle?" Because for him the gal is not an object to be sacrificed for oruthavan's nannaval. That's why!

Ann: That was a balanced view :) Arun will never go over his friends head! Besides I don't think Suraj will object if Beena likes him. He is a non interfering kinda person. :)

Deepti: You are absolutely right about Arun helping himself...but here he cannot as he respects Suraj too much to defy him.

Amey: Yep...you are right!

Anon: Your comment graces my dustbin with other comments like this. I am really sorry that you took so much trouble to write what you should have written in your blog, as that is the place to air your personal opinion, like I do at my blog. Kapiche?

I would think it is more of a matter between arun and suraj here..its upto them to cement their friendship ...I would have thought Arun should be given the chance..if he had a 'not-so-good ' track and is willing to change then that is good enough..Although i respect Suraj's apprehension i would say he should be equal concerned about the happiness of his friend Arun..i wish everything goes well here..

If Arun is serious think he should come forward & talk 2 Beena, after all its his personnel life....

I am damn sure Suraj wud advice/warn Beena if Arun takes such a step.. so it all boils down to Beena to decide considering Arun's college Backgrounds...

Collegeil Romeo ayee nadanappol avan oruthu pollum kannu illa, life is gonna give him the beating with the same plate, which he cherished and enjoyed

Mathew: You are right...especially since Arun has given up his wild ways long time back. I pity Suraj, he has to look out for two people here!

Anon: Thanks! I usually put in such info so that people do not go off tangent. It happens all the time with some readers who dont read the posts carefully. It then takes me time to bring the discussion back to the topic of the post.

Fresh lime soda: Hmm thats another thought! I liked the last para fo your comment :) Poor Arun!! :p

Hey hold on I have seen some weird tamil movie with a similar story line.. darn! What was the name!

Looks like the whole world is out to break heart of poor chaps! There are fe-males like you (ur post at poomanam) and men like Suraj.. sheesh How will man(ushyanmar) live on earth!

Ehm now on a serious note.. Unless Arun proves that he has become 'mature' (aka changed) there is no need for anyone else to play broker/cupid

I think this was what I said earlier:
The good thing about you is that I get to concur with you on most things that you say in here.
Now try n figure this out: A girl at this guy’s workplace finds him interesting (finally!). The guy is single, and got real excited because the girl was a) cute b) made the first move.
Now after a week of phone calls and coffee dates, the girl tells him this wasn’t working out – that she was looking at marriage in the longer term (it was only A WEEK!!), and that she does not think this will work.
A little probing revealed that it was a few of her friends that thought the guy knew every girl at work, and was possibly not the best person to marry.
Question: Is it a bad thing to know people?
Bigger question: Is that how women think??

There was Varun and me.(one name changed).Me had a sister like friend.Me was grandfather like to Varun.Varun dint need to ask me.Oh he was much more a casanova and outlandish than 'Arun'.
me tried to change him.Four years from college me thinks VArun had all the friends, all the life, all the respect. There is no rules - Arun.Me learned from Varun. Go do your thing.F**k evrything else.

Balu: Arun has proved himself by being sober since leaving college. Which is why he feels bad about Suraj's stance.

TW: I think she was looking for an excuse and used the other gals as an easy way out. You are better rid of her. Women do not think like that unless the guy was a real casanova or something like that. Forget this gal, she didn't have the guts to call it quits..

Thomas: No comments :)

I guess you already put forth the problem and the solution Silverine .. :)

UNQUOTE

That makes it very clear he isnt one of the shy guy types.. So the point I want to make is that I dont see a role for Suraj in the story.. lol .. also there is also no third angle to the triangle .. completely one straight line between Arun and Beena ..

My msg to Suraj,' kuch naa kaho ... Kuch Beena kaho'..
Translation: Suraj, You don't tell anything.. Let Beena tell something
:)

On a serious note. Let Arun approach Beena directly. why bothered about Suraj here.. Be straight..

I think it is about how the man thinks when his friend comes to him with a proposal.. Does he think emotionally or rationally... Just think, if it had not been Beena and some other girl that may be Suraj knows as a friend... Suraj may have thought rationally supported Arun.. May be he would have even given a lecture how he has turned a good leaf and how he shd remain same for the rest of the life and put the unpleasant past on the back-burner...
But since it is Beena, a sister, Suraj starts thinking and acting emotionally... I would have done the same thing if I were in Suraj's place... Afterall all the brothers in the world want nothing but the best for their darling sisters!!!
